Can You Donate Unwanted Furniture?

09th May 2022

Moving is the ideal opportunity to review your hoardings and purge a few items or do a complete cull. If you’re not selling it, consider donating it and preventing it from going to waste! The amount of goods you have to carry can have a significant influence on your moving costs. At We Move, our experts recommend donating some items that are still usable can help you do a good deed while saving on moving costs.

Places Where You Can Donate Furniture During A Move

Although there are many charitable institutions that accept furniture donations, here is a list of some you can contact in Sydney:

  • The Generous and The Grateful
  • The Salvation Army Australia
  • Habitat for Humanity Australia
  • Vinnies Shops
  • The Smith Family
  • Bower Re-use and Repair Centre

Check with the organization about the types of furniture they accept. Most common types of furniture that people donate include dining tables, chairs, lounger suite s etc. Specialist furniture (one that needs disassembly or assembly) may not be accepted. So if you have some wall mounted furniture or one with permanent fixtures the charitable institutions might not accept it. Ensure that the furniture is usable

Delivery Of Donated Furniture

Some of the organisations may require you to deliver the furniture to their location. However, most charities will send their personnel to pick up larger furniture which is advantageous to you. Its best to keep all the furniture ready for donation and then call the charities so that you can give them the information they need about the type of furniture, condition, size and more.

Donating through charitable organizations that will visit to your house and collect your possessions can make a tremendous difference. You can purge superfluous items and arrange your possessions in advance of your relocation. If you like to make a gift, visit one of the sites above to help those in need of your support, and assistance. As mentioned earlier, plan everything well and keep the furniture ready for donation at least six weeks in advance.
When you are moving, you will also need skilled and professional removalists who will be able to provide customised services. For more information on how to donate unwanted furniture or details about our  moving solutions, get in touch with We Move Sydney via this Online Form, or give us a call at 1300 017 159 for a free estimate, and we will get back to you shortly.
