Moving House Checklist 2022

09th May 2022

Moving to a new place is a time-consuming process and involves moving boxes, sorting and packing everything, a change of address, and saying your final goodbyes. Fortunately, the process of changing your address is less time-consuming than packing and relocating. While you need to inform family and friends, the list doesn’t just stop there.

Checklist Of Who to Notify

Here’s a checklist of whom you should notify about your move before you actually do.

1. Personal Checklist

Start by contacting your friends and giving them your new address. You also need to keep their contact information handy. Besides, inform your family and relatives that you will be relocating and share the new address details with them. This will help you if there’s mail or in case someone is trying to reach you.

2. Government Authorities Checklist

Here is a list of the authorities you should give out your new address to; they include:

  • Electoral Commission NSW – You will want to be registered to vote at your new address. Get in touch with the electoral roll and let them know about your relocation. You can also change your address on the electoral roll website so you can check the process there as well.
  • Council Taxes – See to it that your council tax is paid off concurrently when you update your address on the website. Every location has a specific website to provide information regarding council tax. You can visit it for your new region to update the information required regarding your address change.
  • Utility – This includes a change of address for gas, water, and electrical services. Provide the date for disconnection and connection date for the new location. See that you complete it before your move, or you might not have power at your new house.

3. Healthcare Checklist

Note down the healthcare providers for you and your family and contact them. Besides your doctors, dentists, opticians, medical stores, child specialists, physiotherapists, or dentists, you should also contact your vet even though your pet may not necessarily be under their care.

A few additional checklists include:

  • Financial checklist
  • Educational checklist
  • Subscriptions
  • Cleaning and maintenance services

See if you need to do any other specific things or people you need to contact before relocation. For more information on the moving house checklist, get in touch with We Move Sydney via this Online Form, or give us a call at 1300 017 159 for a free estimate, and we will get back to you shortly.
